PlaySteps!

Thank you to PlaySteps for making a huge difference in our 7-year-old daughter’s life! Under Lisa’s care, we saw remarkable changes in our daughter’s confidence and emotional regulation. After just a few months of OT, our daughter became noticeably less reactive to situations that would have previously overwhelmed her, and began to approach new challenges (especially physical ones) with curiosity and courage we hadn’t seen before. The results truly felt like magic. Lisa provided incredibly helpful preparation before our first appointment (pictures of the space, pictures of herself, talking points to share with our daughter), and knew exactly how to encourage and support our daughter at the right moments, turning frustrations into opportunities for growth. She always took time to explain her methods, answer our questions, and provide us with strategies we could use at home, which our family deeply appreciated. Every time we drive by the PlaySteps building, our daughter asks to go back – her own version of a 5-star review!

Our 10-year old son walked in with dysgraphia and handwriting that was sometimes hard to decipher even for himself. He walked out of PlaySteps six months later with a handwriting that made us ask “whose child is that from?” His finger strength increased, he learned to focus on his movements, and his general mindset to writing changed. Thank you for your dedication and positive approach to change, PlaySteps team.

Theresa has been a fantastic therapist for our son and a very helpful resource for our family. She immediately identified the root of my son’s handwriting difficulties and laid out a cogent plan to address them. Theresa combines deep knowledge and extensive experience with tremendous passion and positive energy. She is a pleasure to work with, and she is truly gifted in her ability to connect with children. Our son actually enjoys his sessions with her — and his handwriting is improving markedly.

We have been going to PlaySteps for 3 years for both our daughters (ages 6 and 8) for fine motor skills, motor planning and sensory integration therapy. PlaySteps has made our family feel welcome with their child centered approach and most of all our girl’s confidence, strength and abilities grew immensely. Our therapist, Theresa comes with new ideas every week to keep it fresh and fun as well as insight into how our daughters learn and grow best. Starting in the gross motor room is a great way to engage the clients before tackling the fine motor skills. With Theresa’s expertise she provided a relaxed, fun and safe environment. We are forever grateful for the therapy we are receiving at Play Steps.

We are very pleased with the progress our son made through his time at PlaySteps! Lisa was not only incredibly warm and kind to work with, but adapted activities- sometimes on the spot- to find what would be the most engaging for him. Since he wanted to do the activities, it felt less like “work” and more like play and his skills progressed very well as a result. She also connected with his classroom teacher early on in the process so everyone was on board with what areas to focus on and how best to help him achieve long-term success in the classroom.

Before starting with PlaySteps, our son struggled with writing numbers and letters correctly. However, within just a few months of working with Lisa, he was holding his pencil properly and forming characters accurately. Our son looked forward to his sessions with Lisa, and as parents, we appreciated the open communication and updates we received from her. We are grateful for PlaySteps’ positive impact on his development.
