Our Process

Starting Your Journey with PlaySteps

Step 1. Complete our Intake Form

  • Please click here to fill out our Online Intake Questionnaire, which provides us with the necessary information to start you on your journey with us.
  • Once we have received this information, our intake team will contact you to discuss your therapy needs, scheduling availability and our pricing.
  • If needed, a brief telephone call can be arranged with our clinic director, Theresa Baumert, to discuss any specific concerns you may have.
  • If you choose to move forward with us, we will match you with an available therapist, and if one is not immediately available, we will place you on our waitlist.
  • The therapist assigned to your child will reach out to you to discuss the best path forward for evaluation and treatment.

Step 2. Evaluation

  • Our evaluations are individually tailored to meet the needs of your child. The evaluation process generally involves two to three hours of clinic-based testing and observation. Occasionally, additional observations at your child’s school or community site are also planned.
  • After all necessary information is compiled and analyzed, we will schedule a virtual conference with you to discuss our findings and recommendations. You will be provided with a written report detailing these findings after the conference.

Step 3. Scheduling Ongoing Therapy

  • Ongoing therapy sessions are scheduled for one hour once or twice a week, depending on the needs identified during the evaluation.
  • We encourage parents to stay and observe their child’s session to increase their understanding of the process and optimize the carry-over of treatment benefits into the home. We understand this is not always possible given busy schedules, and we will endeavor to find creative ways to support this collaboration.
  • Functional goals are established in collaboration with you after the second or third session to align expectations and ensure treatment remains targeted and outcome based.
  • Parent conferences to evaluate and review their child’s progress are generally scheduled every three months.
