Our Process
If you are interested in learning more about how occupational therapy may help your child and would like to receive a complimentary consultation via phone, we’d be happy to connect with you.
Please complete the following steps:
Step 1. Book a free introductory 15-minute tele-consultation
- Please click here to go to our Online Booking Portal to book a free 15 minute telephone consultation with our clinic director, Theresa Baumert.
- Theresa will work together with you to understand your main concerns and to determine the best path forward for evaluation and possible intervention.
- Please be prepared to discuss your child’s challenges as well as their strengths.
- Any information you can share (whether from home, classroom or other professionals) will help us to develop a clear picture of appropriate next steps.
- If appropriate, Theresa will arrange for an in-clinic evaluation session, and will e-mail you a client intake form which will collect additional information regarding your child. Please be sure to submit the form prior to your evaluation session.
Step 2. Evaluation
- Our evaluations are individually planned to meet the needs of your child. The evaluation process generally includes two to three hours of clinic-based testing and observation directly with your child. Occasionally additional observations at the school/community site are also planned.
- The testing is then scored and interpreted and after all necessary information is gathered an evaluation report is written. A conference (typically virtual) is then scheduled to discuss findings and recommendations with you.
Step 3. Scheduling Ongoing Therapy
- Depending on the needs identified through the evaluation, ongoing therapy sessions are scheduled for 50 minutes once or twice a week.
- We encourage parents to stay and observe their child’s session to increase their understanding of the process and optimize carry-over of treatment benefits into the home. We understand this is not always possible given busy schedules, and we will endeavor to find creative ways to support this collaboration.
- Functional goals are established in collaboration with you after the second or third session to align expectations and ensure treatment remains targeted and outcome based.
- Conferences with the parents to evaluate and review progress are generally scheduled every three months.
